2025 9th International Tracheostomy Symposium

Excellence in Collaborative Tracheostomy Care: From Hospital to Home

The 9th International Tracheostomy Symposium brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, people with a tracheostomy, families, and caregivers to advance excellence in tracheostomy care across the continuum from hospital to home. The symposium focused on innovation, inclusion, multidisciplinary collaboration, patient and family engagement, quality improvement, and practical approaches to improving tracheostomy outcomes.


2024 8th International Tracheostomy Symposium

November 1–2, 2024 | Virtual

The 8th International Tracheostomy Symposium was held virtually on November 1–2. The innovative two-day program brought together thought leaders for interactive sessions and scientific innovation.

The program featured the latest technology, patient and family perspectives, and state-of-the-art presentations on the management of patients with tracheostomies. This is the premier event for tracheostomy specialists, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, patients, and families to grow and learn together.


2023 7th International Tracheostomy Symposium

October 20–21, 2023 | Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD

The 7th International Tracheostomy Symposium was held on October 20–21, 2023 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. We partnered with Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Tracheostomy Review and Management Service (TRAMS) to host an innovative two-day program that brought together thought leaders for interactive sessions and scientific innovation.

The program featured the latest technology, patient and family perspectives, a cadaver lab, and state-of-the-art presentations on the management of patients with tracheostomies.


2021 6th International Tracheostomy Symposium

October 7–8, 2021 | Virtual Meeting Presented Live from Manchester, UK

The 6th International Tracheostomy Symposium was a global virtual meeting hosted live from Manchester, United Kingdom. The event was co-designed with patients, families, and healthcare professionals from around the world and represented the many different specialties involved in improving tracheostomy care.

More than 1,250 delegates participated, including healthcare professionals, patients, families, and industry partners. The virtual program included international speakers, patient and family perspectives, scientific sessions, education, quality improvement, and discussions on the challenges facing people with tracheostomies.


2019 5th International Tracheostomy Symposium

October 11, 2019 | Melbourne, Australia

Safer Tracheostomy Care Everywhere.

The 5th International Tracheostomy Symposium returned to Melbourne, Australia and was hosted by Austin Health in collaboration with the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative and the Royal Children's Hospital. More than 300 international delegates participated, with representation from healthcare professionals, patients, families, and industry partners.


2018 4th International Tracheostomy Symposium

February 1–3, 2018 | UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX

The 4th International Tracheostomy Symposium was hosted by UT Southwestern Medical Center in Texas together with the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative.

The program focused on quality improvement, state-of-the-art tracheostomy care, patient and family involvement, education, community care, health equity, ethical challenges, multidisciplinary care, respiratory therapy, and speech-language pathology.

The 4th International Tracheostomy Symposium was an astounding success. Thank you to everyone who participated.


2016 3rd International Tracheostomy Symposium

April 29–30, 2016 | Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD

The 3rd International Tracheostomy Symposium was hosted by Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland and marked the first ITS held in the United States.

The 3rd International Tracheostomy Symposium (ITS) was an astounding success. Thank you to everyone who participated. With over 200 registrants either in person or via live streaming, we found great support for the GTC and a thirst for quality improvement to be put into practice.

The major takeaway: healthcare, especially high-quality tracheostomy care, is a team endeavor. Every team member has different experiences and perspectives, and by working together, we will improve the culture of tracheostomy care in our institutions.


2014 2nd International Tracheostomy Symposium

October 8, 2014 | Austin Health, Melbourne, Australia

The 2nd International Tracheostomy Symposium was hosted by Austin Health in Melbourne, Australia, continuing the international collaboration that began with the inaugural symposium in 2011.

The first two International Tracheostomy Symposiums brought together more than 600 medical professionals from 11 countries and helped establish the ITS as a leading international meeting for multidisciplinary tracheostomy care.

The inaugural International Tracheostomy Symposium was hosted by Austin Health in Melbourne, Australia.

The meeting brought together healthcare professionals with a shared interest in improving tracheostomy care and helped establish the foundation for what would become an international series dedicated to multidisciplinary collaboration, patient safety, quality improvement, and better outcomes for people with tracheostomies.
