Webinar Update: Given acceleration of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York, this session will also include a brief update from Babak Givi, M.D., surgeon and associate professor at NYU

The COVID-19 pandemic has unfolded with remarkable speed, posing unprecedented challenges for healthcare systems and for society. This webinar draws on some extremely instructive experiences from international colleagues who have navigated this crisis successfully.  What we can learn strikes a note of hope and clarifies the work ahead of us.  This understanding can help organize actions needed to drive the transmission of infection to healthcare workers toward zero.  This webinar reveals how powerful lessons taken from prior coronavirus infections –particularly SARS in 2003– have been used to prevent the spread of infection.  Preserving the workforce is critical for patient care.  This webinar will focus on safe practices for tracheostomy, airway, and intensive care related to novel coronavirus infection.

Please join this Global Tracheostomy Collaborative webinar on one of the great challenges of our time.  The session will show how cross-cultural insights are critical for overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives:

  1. To improve knowledge around COVID-19 in the healthcare setting, with focus on lessons from Hong Kong, Australia, and United States
  2. To learn what strategies have proven effective in avoiding transmission of COVID-19 across geographies
  3. To identify factors specific to tracheostomy that may impact safety of patients and the multidisciplinary team
  4. To identify aerosol generating procedures and strategies to mitigate infectious risk around such procedures
