Mr. Smith is CEO of AE Smith Associates a firm he founded in 2009.  In December 2006, Mr. Smith retired from his position as Senior Partner of Bear Wagner Specialists LLC, a member firm of the New York Stock Exchange, after 35 successful years on Wall Street.  

As the great-grandson of the legendary Gov. Al Smith he served as Chairman of Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation, as well as Master of Ceremonies at the annual Al Smith Dinner for the last 29 years.  He currently serves on the Boards of the Stamford Hospital Foundation, Mutual of America, Genco and Provectus Pharmaceuticals.

Al co-founded Hackers for Hope in 1988. Since inception, Hackers for Hope has donated over $20,000,000 to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and other organizations committed to treating and finding a cure for cancer.

Al has received numerous honors and awards including:

  • Ellis Island Medal of Honor
  • National Brotherhood Award, National Conference of Christians and Jews
  • American Cancer Society’s Gold Sword of Hope Award
  • Terence Cardinal Cooke Humanitarian Award
  • 2013 Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City

He is married to Nan Moore Smith. They have two children and six grandchildren.
